Spot and Other Facing
Type of cutter
For spot facers, an odd number of large teeth with plenty of chip clearance between them is recommended. Carbide tips are desirable for long runs. No rake is necessary.12° clearance
Speed
Varies with conditions; trial advocated. Firm pressure on work is necessary.
Spot-facing tools have carbide tips-especially for long runs-and can be arranged to cut on more than one level. A drill or reamer is often combined with a spot-facing tool to perform two operations simultaneously, with a net saving in time and equipment. For large diameters, inserted-blade cutters are sometimes employed and the cutters may have carbide tips.
