Casting Study: Shielded connector for electrical engineering

Plug connections in electrical engineering are highly complex components that have to be delicate yet stable due to the space available. Added to this is the shielding function of different conductors in the housing.

The award-winning shield housing is a true microcasting process – an absolute test of the limits in terms of accuracy and manufacturability in mold making. With tolerances of +/- 0.03 mm and minimal wall thicknesses in the internal shield cross of just 0.16 mm, this cast part is an admirable precision piece. The complex internal geometry is like watchmaker quality and precision mechanics. The mold making is realized microtechnology, which has been implemented through a modular structure of the shaping slide inserts. The maximum utilization of the draft angles and the parameters of a subsequent galvanic coating were taken into account.

The cast part replaces a previously 2-part cast part. It is cast in plastic in a subsequent process.
