Casting Study: Closure ring overhead shower RAINFINITY
In the field of sanitary technology, extremely high demands are placed on the surface appearance, resistance and dimensional stability of the assemblies. A high standard of haptics conveys a high-quality feeling. With the casing of the Rainfinity overhead shower, the company HDO Druckguss- und Oberflächentechnik has succeeded in implementing these design parameters with die-cast zinc – and that in various surface designs. In addition to the decorative demands on the surface, the exact curve of the overhead shower casing plays a central role – and that with a relatively thin-walled component design. In the foundry, the component is cast on almost the entire inner surface as evenly as possible using a center gate. In the subsequent grinding and polishing processes, special clamping devices are used to prevent production-related temperature fluctuations from causing tension. This ensures the perfect rounding of the component. Irrespective of the final surface, high-gloss chrome or paint system, all components are high-gloss chrome-plated on special frames that are also optimized for roundness. Compared to a milled part the design of the individually configurable inner surface can be seen as an advantage. Anti-twist protection and undercuts for final assembly can already be implemented in this area. The casting impresses with the combination of size, precision, thin walls, feel and visual appearance. The challenge of filling the casting mold was solved brilliantly.
